Located in the heart of Downtown Amman, on the historic King Faisal Street—where the city first unfolded—the Numismatic Museum is nestled within Jordan Ahli Bank’s original branch, reactivating a site of foundational economic memory. The design draws from the cultural and topographical strata of Amman, offering a high-tech yet grounded spatial experience. A tactile façade of perforated steel patterns borrowed from the bank identity and brand, reinterprets local street shutters while filtering views into a luminous interior that is simultaneously contemporary and timeless.
Inside, the museum is conceived as a continuous loop—a chronological promenade wrapping around monumental stone pillars that stand like geological markers in time. These carved monoliths anchor the visitor’s journey, as the collection flows from ancient currencies to the Hashemite era’s modern financial narrative. Custom vitrines, recessed lighting, and soft textures create a calibrated backdrop for delicate coin displays, while suspended elements and a circular exhibition path celebrate motion, precision, and permanence—qualities shared by both architecture and currency.
